From a Simple Gift to Something Much Bigger

Where It All Began

It’s funny how things start at Harmony, often not with a grand plan, but with something small and thoughtful that quietly grows into something much bigger than expected.

Back in February 2018, Andrew purchased a pottery gift voucher for Ange. At the time, it was simply that — a gift. Something a little different, something creative, something to enjoy.

What followed was something no one could have quite predicted.

That one experience sparked something in Ange. A curiosity that quickly turned into a passion, and over time, that passion grew into a skill, then a focus, and now into something that has become a truly special part of Harmony.

Today, Ange leads the pottery studio, guiding classes, managing enrolments, and shaping the space into what it is becoming. What makes it all feel so genuine is that her journey is the same as so many who now walk through the studio doors. She knows what it feels like to sit at the wheel for the first time, unsure of where to start, and to slowly build confidence from there.

And that’s what people connect with.

Stepping Into the Studio

There’s a feeling when you step into the studio during a class that’s hard to describe but easy to recognise.

The wheels are spinning, clay is moving, and there’s a natural rhythm to it all. Some people are completely new, others are returning to build on what they’ve learned, but everyone is there for the same reason — to slow down, to try something different, and to enjoy the process of making.

There’s no pressure in the room, no expectation of perfection, just a supportive space where people can switch off from the noise of everyday life and get their hands into clay.

And what comes out of it is always interesting. Every piece is different, full of personality, and a reflection of the person who made it. That’s part of the charm.

The People Behind the Studio

Behind the scenes, there’s a wonderful group of people who bring the studio to life.

Ange sits at the centre of it all, creating a space that feels welcoming and approachable, especially for those starting out. Her way of teaching is calm, patient, and focused on making sure people enjoy the experience just as much as the outcome.

Loz from Stranger Designs brings a beautiful creative energy into the space. You’ll often find her behind a wheel, running a class, or quietly working away loading the kiln. Her work has a thoughtful, expressive feel to it, and it’s something you’ll often see featured in-store at Harmony.

Christine from Magpie Tree Pottery is an absolute powerhouse. With deep knowledge across both wheel throwing and hand building, she brings a level of skill and experience that really elevates the studio. Her understanding of glazing is exceptional, and she has a way of sharing that knowledge that makes it feel accessible, no matter where you’re starting from.

And then there’s Chloe, working from her studio in Southern Tasmania, whose pieces are available through the Harmony gift shop and makers markets. Her work is refined and quietly beautiful, adding another layer to the creative offering within the space.

Together, they’ve created something that feels genuine, supportive, and full of creativity.

A Gift That Feels Different

As Mother’s Day approaches, this is where the pottery studio really starts to shine.

A pottery experience isn’t just a gift to unwrap, it’s something to step into. It’s time spent together, or time taken out for yourself, doing something that slows things down and brings a bit of joy.

It’s not uncommon to see people arrive a little unsure and leave smiling, with clay on their hands and already talking about coming back.

That’s usually a good sign.

Classes Now Online

With classes now available online, it’s become much easier to see what’s on offer and book in. https://harmonystudio.kilnfire.com/classes

The response has been incredibly strong, and classes are filling quickly as more people discover what’s happening in the studio.

For those thinking about it, it’s worth jumping in sooner rather than later.

Classes can be explored and booked through the Harmony Studio platform, and pottery experience gift cards are also available, offering a simple way to give something a little different this Mother’s Day.

These E-GiftVouchers allow the recipient to choose their class and manage their booking with ease, making the whole experience seamless from start to finish.

A Glimpse of What’s to Come

Looking ahead, there’s more to come.

A small glimpse into what’s next will arrive in Spring 2026, with the introduction of studio memberships. This will open the door for those wanting to spend more time in the space, whether that’s using the equipment, having pieces fired, or simply jumping behind a wheel when the moment feels right.

It’s an exciting step and one that continues to build on what started with that one simple gift.

More Than Just Pottery

Because at its core, the pottery studio at Harmony isn’t really about pottery.

It’s about creating a space where people can slow down, try something new, and connect — with the process, with others, and with themselves.

And sometimes, that’s exactly what’s needed.
