Description
Fast growing shrub from the dry east coast of Tasmania. Growing 2-4m high by 2-3m wide, this dense shrub makes an excellent screen. Ornamental in flower and for the fine arching foliage. Masses of sweetly/honey-scented, fluffy white flowers cover the bush in spring, attracting a wide variety of insects and birds. Hardy in well-drained, sunny sites, including sandy and coastal. Bushfood: aromatic leaves can be used as a flavouring in cooking or steeped in hot water for a lovely tea. Edible, nectar-rich flowers can be steeped in water for a sweet, refreshing drink or used to flavour desserts and preserves. Both the essential oils extracted from the leaves and the honey produced from the flowers are regarded highly for their medicinal properties. A very useful and beautiful plant indeed!
