o add colour to the garden

While perennials provide enduring beauty, annuals bring a burst of instant color to your garden. In this segment, we'll explore five annual treasures – marigold, petunia, cosmos, lobelia, and sunflowers – each offering a unique spectrum of hues to liven up your outdoor space

    Marigold: Golden Marvels
Marigolds, with their brilliant golden blooms, bring a sunny disposition to any garden. These easy-to-grow annuals thrive in full sun, making them a fantastic addition to beds, borders, or containers. African marigolds, in particular, are excellent companion plants for the veggie garden, helping to deter harmful insects like nematodes and even rabbits from your edible plants..

Lobelia: Great colour for borders & Pots
Lobelia, with vibrant blue, violet, or white blossoms, is perfect for adding a cool contrast to warmer-hued flowers. These compact annuals are ideal for edging, containers, or hanging baskets and thrive in partial shade to full sun.

    Impatiens: Shade-Loving Gems
Impatiens are the perfect choice for brightening up those shady spots in your garden. With their vibrant blooms in shades of pink, red, white, and purple, they add a splash of color to areas where other plants might struggle. Ideal for containers, beds, or hanging baskets, impatiens thrive in partial to full shade and bloom throughout the warmer months.

    Sunflowers: Majestic Giants

Nothing says summer like sunflowers. These towering annuals, available in various sizes and colors, create a stunning focal point in any garden. Their cheerful faces and robust stems make them a favorite for children and adults alike. Sowing sunflowers is easy: plant the seeds directly into the garden in spring after the last frost. Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil, plant the seeds about 2-3 cm deep, and keep them watered until they sprout. In no time, you'll have majestic giants reaching for the sky!

Hanging baskets are a delightful way to bring color and charm to any outdoor space, whether it's a porch, balcony, or garden. In this segment, we'll introduce three stunning plants that are perfect for hanging baskets: the long-flowering Sutera, vibrant Calibrachoa, and the newly arrived Fuchsia. These beauties promise an extended display of color, enhancing the visual appeal of your garden all season long.

Sutera: Cascading Elegance with Lasting Bloom
Sutera, also known as Bacopa, is a trailing plant featuring delicate, star-shaped flowers. It’s an excellent choice for hanging baskets due to its ability to spill over the edges, creating a graceful cascade of color. Sutera blooms profusely all year round, making it a beloved favorite for long-lasting hanging displays.

Calibrachoa: Mini Petunias with Maximum Impact
Calibrachoa, often called million bells, is a compact and prolific bloomer. Its small, petunia-like flowers come in a wide range of colors, creating a vivid spectacle in hanging baskets. These versatile plants thrive in full sun and continue to flower throughout the growing season, providing a continuous burst of color.

New Season Hanging Basket Fuchsia:
Fuchsias are a stunning addition to any display. With their pendant-like, bi-colored blooms, they add a touch of drama and elegance to outdoor spaces. Fuchsias are known for their charm, and with proper care, they will bloom profusely, bringing vibrancy to your garden.

Tips for Hanging Basket Success:

  • Choosing the Right Basket: Ensure your hanging basket is spacious enough to accommodate the roots of your chosen plants and has good drainage.
  • Sun and Water Needs: Pay attention to the sunlight requirements of each plant. Sutera and Calibrachoa thrive in full sun, while Fuchsia prefers partial shade. Water regularly, ensuring the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged.
  • Feeding and Deadheading: Use a premium potting mix with added water storage to prevent the soil from drying out during the summer months. Regularly deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering.

By selecting a combination of long-flowering Sutera, vibrant Calibrachoa, and the new season hanging basket Fuchsia, you can create a stunning display that will captivate onlookers throughout the growing season. Embrace the beauty and versatility of these plants to elevate your garden with cascading colors and delicate blooms.

Happy gardening!
