Keep an Eye Out for Aphids

Keep an Eye Out for Aphids

Aphid alertIt's that time of year. But fear not, at Harmony, we are gearing up with our trusty ladybirds and eco-friendly sprays. Together, we'll keep those pesky aphids in check!

Using low-toxic sprays and eco-friendly alternatives like Eco oil or homemade canola spray is a responsible choice that minimises harm to the environment while effectively managing pests.

Eco-oil is a registered organic miticide and insecticide designed to control a range of common garden pests, including scale, aphids, two-spotted mite, whitefly, mealybugs, and citrus leafminer. It’s safe to use on both vegetables and ornamental plants, with no withholding period, so you can spray and enjoy your harvest on the same day! Additionally, it’s gentle on beneficial insects like bees, lady beetles, and earthworms.

HIPPO Enhanced Eco-Oil!

Eco-oil is now HIPPO Enhanced, marking a revolutionary step in natural pest control. This enhancement is the result of a three-year research project with Charles Sturt University that investigated how plants naturally defend themselves. When plants are under attack, they release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as SOS signals to attract beneficial insects. These “helpers” include lady beetles, lacewings, hoverflies, and parasitoids.

HIPPO Enhanced Eco-oil mimics this defense mechanism by including similar organic compounds in the spray. Research has shown that this attracts a variety of beneficial insects to the garden. Pretty amazing, right?

So, when you use HIPPO Enhanced Eco-oil, you’re not only tackling those troublesome pests but also inviting beneficial insects to help bring your garden ecosystem into better balance.

Right now, aphids are starting to attack plants in the garden, so it's important to keep an eye on your vegetable crops, maples, silver birch, and other vulnerable plants. These tiny pests can quickly multiply and cause damage if left unchecked. By using eco-friendly solutions like HIPPO Enhanced Eco-oil, you can protect your plants while also attracting beneficial insects to keep your garden healthy.

Sustainable Gardening at Harmony

We believe in using low-toxicity sprays and eco-friendly alternatives like eco-oil or homemade canola oil spray to manage pests while minimising environmental harm. At Harmony, we release ladybirds and parasitic wasps as part of our holistic and sustainable approach to gardening. By harnessing the power of natural predators, we not only protect our plants but also reduce reliance on chemical pesticides, helping to preserve soil health and the surrounding environment.

Enhancing Your Garden Ecosystem

In addition to using eco-oil, consider planting companion plants such as marigolds and nasturtiums. These flowers attract beneficial insects, including pollinators like bees and butterflies, thereby improving the overall biodiversity in your garden and contributing to a healthier ecosystem.

Crop rotation is another useful practice to disrupt pest life cycles. By changing the location of your crops each year, you help prevent the buildup of pests and diseases in the soil, leading to a more resilient and productive garden.

Happy Gardening!
