Description

Tasmannia lanceolata- Male (Tasmannia lanceolata- Male)

Description: Tasmannia lanceolata, also known as Mountain Pepper or Tasmanian Pepperberry, is a dioecious shrub native to woodlands and cool temperate rainforests of southeastern Australia, including Tasmania. The male plants of this species are recognized for their role in pollinating the female plants, which are responsible for producing the spicy berries used in cooking and traditional medicine.

Characteristics:

  • Height: Grows to about 2-10 meters in height.
  • Leaves: The leaves are lance-shaped, glossy, and dark green, with a tendency to turn reddish in colder weather.
  • Flowers: Male plants produce small, white to pale yellow flowers in early spring. These flowers are crucial for pollinating female plants as they do not bear fruit themselves.
