Description
One of the world's most famous Asian pears, Nijisseiki, meaning "20th Century", produces medium-sized round fruit with smooth yellow-green skin and exceptionally crisp, juicy flesh. Renowned for its refreshing sweetness and outstanding eating quality, it remains a favourite among home gardeners and fruit enthusiasts.
Pollination: Partially self-fertile. For heavier crops, plant with Williams, Hosui, Kosui, Shinseiki
Harvest: April
Best Uses: Fresh eating, fruit platters, salads, juicing and desserts.
Position: Full sun in fertile soil.
Why We Love It: Nijisseiki is considered the benchmark for Asian pear flavour and texture. The fruit is incredibly crisp, refreshing and juicy, with a delicate sweetness that makes it perfect for eating straight from the tree. Grafted onto a dwarfing rootstock, it is easier to prune, net and harvest while fitting comfortably into smaller gardens, courtyards and backyard orchards. Its reliable cropping, exceptional fruit quality and compatibility with many common pear varieties make it a standout choice for Tasmanian gardeners
