Description
A dwarf form of the famous French prune plum, producing medium-sized oval fruit with deep purple-blue skin and firm golden-green flesh. Prune d'Agen is celebrated for its rich sweetness, excellent flavour and outstanding drying qualities, making it one of the world's finest plums for both fresh eating and prunes.
Pollination: Partially self-fertile. For heavier and more reliable crops, plant with Green Gage, Damson, Coe's Golden Drop or another compatible European plum flowering at the same time.
Harvest: February
Best Uses: Fresh eating, drying into prunes, bottling, jams, baking and preserving.
Position: Full sun in well-drained soil.
Why We Love It: Dwarf Prune d'Agen is one of the most versatile plum trees you can grow. The fruit develops a rich, concentrated sweetness as it ripens and is equally delicious eaten fresh or dried into traditional prunes. Tasmania's cool climate helps produce beautifully flavoured fruit with excellent sugar content, while the compact tree makes pruning, netting and harvesting much easier. An excellent choice for gardeners wanting a productive, easy-to-manage European plum.
