Description
A classic Japanese plum producing large, rounded fruit with deep crimson-red skin and sweet, juicy amber flesh flushed with red near the stone. Santa Rosa is renowned for its outstanding flavour, reliable heavy crops and excellent eating quality, making it one of the world's most popular plums.
Pollination: Partially self-fertile. For heavier crops, plant with Mariposa, Satsuma, Gulf Ruby or another Japanese plum flowering at the same time.
Harvest: Late January to February
Best Uses: Fresh eating, fruit platters, jams, desserts, baking and preserving.
Position: Full sun in well-drained soil.
Why We Love It: Santa Rosa produces beautifully large, juicy plums with an irresistible balance of sweetness and tangy flavour. The amber flesh, richly coloured around the stone, is succulent, aromatic and delicious eaten straight from the tree. Tasmania's warm days and cool nights help develop exceptional colour, sweetness and complexity of flavour, while the tree reliably produces generous crops year after year. It's one of the finest all-round plums for fresh eating, preserving and sharing with family and friends
