Description
Potato Onions are larger than Shallots and store longer when harvested, with the bulbs lasting around 6 months if stored in an airy enviroment . This heirllom onion are usually planted around the shortest day and harvested on the longest day & as the potato onions are getting close to harvest the tops will fall over. When you see the tops start to fall over, reduce the water and make sure any mulch is removed to reduce the risk of rotting. Once about half of the tops have fallen over, the potato onions are ready to lift. You can harvest the whole cluster or take only a few for immediate use and store any surplus to multiply for next year and harvest on a dry day
Plant in full sun position in organically enriched but well drained soil,One bulb can produce up to 8 or more onions as they multiply.
